Greetings, readers, from the 21st century! This month has been incredible for Mobius, as I met my goal of 5 chapters, bringing the total to 34/40! As I write this, I’m coming down from the high of writing the big reveal, which turns everything the characters know about the entire history of their world upside-down. It was a behemoth of a chapter, sitting at 3,500 words. Next up: the climax!
Speaking of word count, Mobius is now over 70,000, making it the longest story I have ever written, my previous record being a NaNoWriMo book of about 60,000. Another record broken in my writing career by my most ambitious project to date. It feels incredible!
Despite all the celebration, I felt disappointed while writing these chapters. The characters, the foreshadowing, and the events leading up to them weren’t fleshed out well enough to give them the impact I imagined. I suppose it’s good that I recognize this, as it gives me a place to start planning the second draft for next year. Ideas are already coming into my head for exciting ways to set up the characters!
NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) is nearly upon us, and, in the spirit of the season, my next goal is to finish this draft by the end of November. That means I have a month and a half to write the final 6 chapters and the epilogue. My life outside of writing has just gotten a lot busier, but I’m gunning for the final stretch!
